About Us

IMG_7727 - 400x400Kiwi children have been “GymbaROOing” since 1993 when Gill Connell, a primary school teacher and mother of 3 was introduced to the Australian parent company Toddler Kindy GymbaROO.  Recognising its value and importance to children’s development she secured the first New Zealand franchise and opened the first GymbaROO centre in Riccarton, Christchurch.

Canterbury families quickly recognised the quality of this new and exciting program and the huge benefits attending could offer their developing children.

As happens in New Zealand ‘word’ spread very quickly and within a few years centres had opened in other areas including Auckland and Wellington.

The past 20 years have sped by and many families, some with three or more children have enjoyed the fun and learning at GymbaROO centres in NZ.

MB 0021 - 400x400GymbaROO New Zealand boasts a very diverse, talented and dedicated team of franchisees, instructors and assistants. All instructors are required to have a three year qualification, preferably in the para-medical or teaching professions, however no matter what qualifications and experience you bring to GymbaROO all teachers/instructors must complete the intensive Initial GymbaROO training and are also required to complete on going Professional Development Modules.
Many franchisees and teachers also complete other courses and trainings to further their knowledge in the Child Neuro-Development.

IMG_7242 - 400x400NZ GymbaROO franchisees and teachers are known for their innovative and creative ideas and these have contributed to the overall development of the international program. These innovations include the development of a new Baby program and several fun themes for the older children. Also the wonderful music that accompanies the GymbaROO program was produced by Tessa Grigg a then franchisee and currently a partner in Tessarose Productions.

In 2001 the business structure changed with the establishment of a New Zealand Master Franchisee. Joanne Looney who had very successfully established the first Wellington Central franchise, took on the role of Master Franchisee. She is involved in the development of the program in New Zealand, supporting the centres here with ongoing visits, professional development and quality assurance. She loves to hear about your GymbaROO experiences so please do say hi when she next visits your centre. We are dedicated to providing the best GymbaROO experience for you and your family so welcome your feedback and suggestions.
